Will post about how amazing Oz was later, right now I just want to complain about the 47 hours it took me to get home.
Fucking Charles De Gaulle Airport, and fucking Dublin Airport.
At least now I can say I've been to Belfast Airport.

Sydney has been a great success. We saw the sights, took the tours, met the Koalas, drank Absinthe and various cocktails and generally chillaxed.
Next stop Brisbane, and Gencon Oz

Having picked up a DS to make the 24+ hour flight more bearable, I keep thinking of this Penny Arcade.
On a related note, the entire Oz trip is seeming more sane now that I won't be travelling alone. Though I'm fairly sure it could seem any few sane is if I packed nothing but Pistachio nuts.

Bad news- can't make Q-con
Good news- Going to Gencon Oz instead. I fly out 24th June, spend a few a days in Sydney and then travel up to Brisbane for the Australian leg of the L5R Samurai Championships. I still have to organise minor things like accommodation, but where's the fun in being too prepared ;)
Now I just need a deck that won't scrub out...

| Sheffield Kotei |
[13 Apr 2008|10:54pm] |
Well the Sheffield Kotei was a success, myself and Eoin finished 3rd and 4th, both top of clan (Dragon and Crab respectively). We (Eoin, Fatz, Siskey and myself) flew out from Dublin at 6:30am on Saturday, arrived in Birmingham and then took the train to Sheffield. Aaron arrived about 20 minutes late and gave me the deck about 3 minutes before my first game. It was interesting sitting down to the first game with no idea what's in the deck...

[10 Apr 2008|07:39am] |
Having recently finished watching the Season 4 DVDs of The Wire and One Tree Hill, and with there being no sign of the new NCIS, I've run out of things to watch. Whilst I tend to keep up with episodes of new shows online, I like to buy whole series I've missed on DVD and watch them four or five episodes at a time, so I tend to devour DVDs at a tremendous rate.
Anyone have any recommendations for shows out on DVD I should watch? I'll watch pretty much anything- my collection goes from Babylon 5 and Dawson's Creek through to Supernatural and The Unit. Preferably something that lasted a few Seasons.

Following on from Vaticon last week, the next stop on the Year of Doing Shit express is Sheffield for the first of the UK Koteis.
Less than a week to go and I still have no idea what my deck plays like.
I'm gonna scrub so bad...

The Shat- Common People |
] |
The average Cam game goes from about 7:00/7:30 till 10:30/11:00. The term "10 o'clock Monster" is used to describe the major NPC that arrives at about that time to push along the plot. And the poor guy gets a lot of stick for it.
The average Vampire has 15 players. Of these, 4 are "big players" (Prince, Seneschal etc) who are deeply engrossed in devious dealings, 6 others are less important, but also engaged in plotting, and the last 5 are standing around moaning how there's never anything to do.
Then 10 o'clock comes.
Suddenly there's a big hoopla in court. "What's he doing here? OMFG, we're gonna die!!!"
All of a sudden, all 15 people are involved. "Did you see that? Did he hear what he said? I heard this one time that so and so did this or that".
A game without a 10 o'clock Monster relies heavily on the players to do something openly, and that's generally not what Vampire is about. I've ACSTed two Vampire games now, both without a major NPC arriving at court.
Last months game had the Consul Frank Swann attempt to remove the Seneschal Francis Fitzgerald, while Mr. Sunshine brought random court members away for "questioning". Everything was grand, people got to do things, there was some action and some intrigue. Good Game.
The month before had half the court disappeared off on some secret errand. The rest of the court is left to their own devices. There is much muttering and complaining about having nothing to do. Those who were off on their plot had lots of fun, and remember the game fondly. Those who weren't remember it as a bad game.
So before you malign poor old B'ah Al'Din or Kozan Aglan, remember they're there to give you plot, not take it away...

Clubbed to Death - Rob D |

For all their flaws, no one can accuse Blizzard of not getting into the spirit of things. Today I baked gingerbread cookies for Santa, rescued a Reindeer with magic flying dust, and am off to find a Snowman.
Wacky fun :)

[12 Dec 2005|04:09am] |
My GURPS "I swear it's not Firefly, there's no need for lawyers" game has drawn to a successful (in my opinion) close. The "girl" was saved, the tyrants were thwarted, and society was needlessly ruined.
Having promised an old friend from home who's moved up to Dublin that I'd run a game so he could get some gaming in, I've got to come up with something new.
Having watched several seasons of 24 and The West Wing, I'm in the mood for a game with a political edge, probably some top secret Spec Ops thing. At first I thought of Con X, but I'm put off by my lack of knowledge of the system. Stargate is also an option, as it's modifications of D20 change the game enough that I feel it works well for a modern setting.
Ideas anyone?
